The increasing number of Guyanese businessmen and families who are frequent overland travellers to Suriname driving their own vehicles, would welcome the introduction by Assuria General (GY) Inc. of the first ever cross border insurance coverage.
The coverage allows them to drive into Suriname and be guaranteed the same coverage they enjoy locally, whether they have comprehensive or third-party insurance policies.
The Suriname-based company, acknowledged as a trendsetter in the insurance industry in its home country, opened its Guyana office a little over two years ago, with the intention of taking advantage of the cross border trading in insurance business.
Suriname’s Ambassador to Guyana, NisaKurban-Bahoe, who received the first certificate for the cross-border insurance policy, praised the company for successfully dealing with the challenges of starting up a business in a foreign country and for its rapid growth in Guyana.
The Ambassador said that it was hoped that citizens of both countries would make good use of this new insurance service to further more people to people contact.
“Suriname and Guyana as neighbouring countries and members of Caricom and UNASUR share similarities in history, economy and culture. Both of us have an interest in a successful transformation of our economy in the region.
With Assuria’s investment in Guyana and the extension of its services, I am convinced of the further strengthening of our bilateral relationship and enhancing regional integration and regional development.”
Assuria Life (GY) Inc. and Assuria General (GY) Inc. are companies which are subsidiaries of Assuria NV. Assuria NV is the holding company of the shares of several other companies in Suriname. Through its operating companies Assuria NV offers life insurance and general insurance, including term insurances, endowments and pension plans, travel and health insurances. Assuria is a large institutional investor, especially active in the field of mortgage loans and real estate developments.
Assuria NV has substantial interest in a number of leading Surinamese companies and invests in the international capital market.
