Mr. Lance Hinds is the new President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI). The reins of the entity were handed over to Hinds yesterday by the now Former President, Mr. Clinton Urling at the Chamber’s boardroom at Waterloo Street, Georgetown.
In addressing media operatives, Mr. Urling expressed that the election of the Council of the Chamber for the year 2014/2015 was also conducted yesterday. The Former President noted that the Council consists of 21 members and its new Executive Management Committee for the year 2014/2015 comprises its President, Senior Vice-President, Junior Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.
The persons serving in these posts hail from various businesses.
The President for example, Mr. Lance Hinds, is the Chief Executive Officer of the BrainStreet Group, while the Senior Vice President is Vishnu Doerga of Doerga Business Enterprises. Padma Prashad of Ansa Mcal Trading Limited (Guyana) is the new Junior Vice President, while Eon Grant of Republic Bank (Guyana) will be retained as the Treasurer. Nicholas Boyer of National Hardware Limited will serve as the Chamber’s secretary.
In brief remarks, Hinds expressed that the primary objective of the conference was to introduce the new board to the media. He said that as he takes over as the new President, the work that would have been started under Urling would be continued, with more emphasis being placed on the rebuilding of the secretariat. He noted that the designs and proposals are in and the next phase is to put out a tender, and the chamber is in the process of doing so.
“We have some research activities that we are doing at this point. We are placing some emphasis, however, on the Intellectual Property Law. We are looking to see the effects of the lack of current legislation in several areas. Also, our seminars continue. The next one will be on Human Capital Development and we are also going to have the start of our Distinguished Lecture Series and Toussaint Boyce, a respected Money Laundering Specialist, is scheduled for the event.”
“The first executive meeting will be held next week and we are expected to have our work programme for the year outlined.”
In speaking with Kaieteur News, Hinds said that Urling has done an exceptional job during his time and he (Hinds) will continue along the same path.
