Anyone attempting to compare the standard of play witnessed last year and what is being exhibited in the current competition would immediately distinguish the rise in technical and tactical skills between the two editions.
Thanks to Nestle under its Milo brand, schools within the Georgetown environs have been afforded a great opportunity to not only keep certain students in their respective institutions, but more importantly it has provided some students who’re not academically inclined with another option to make a positive mark in their lives once an enabling environment is sustained.
Milo, whose association with the Petra Organisation is well established and known, must be commended for its foresight and care in honouring its social responsibility in giving back to the society.
Through its sponsorship dollars, the level of the game has risen within Georgetown and while the company has not been the sole entity to assist in this regard, its role should never be ignored.
The admirable attendance at the games, the interaction between the schools and players, the opportunity for scouts to spot talent and the advice being offered by aficionados are all valuable, but would not be possible without the support from Milo.
This weekend when the competition is scheduled to culminate, all the participating schools, teachers, Petra Organisation, fans and all the other related stakeholders should take their hats off and salute Milo for once again fulfilling its civic duty, but more importantly playing a significant role in the development of our young aspiring ball weavers.
The tournament has helped to build friendships, create an environment to foster teamwork, a much needed ingredient in team sports and most of all enhance the skills of the players.
The tournaments to follow will certainly benefit immensely from what Milo has done and what comes next, especially during the upcoming Digicel competition, will be a gratifying spectacle for the fans and scouts.
The players have responded to Milo’s extended investment which is extensive and no doubt Saturday’s final and third place playoff will be sufficient compensation for the sponsor’s trust in supporting a quality product.
