The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Golden Jubilee celebration would be boosted by the hosting of a countrywide exhibition of the rich tradition of cricket in the Ancient County.
The exhibition would be hosted at every secondary school in Berbice, leading up to public exhibitions during the month of September which has officially been named the ‘Golden Jubilee Month of Celebration’.
BCB Special Events and 75th Anniversary Committee Chairman, Hilbert Foster informed that the main aims of the historic exhibition, the first of its kind to be organised, is to educate Berbicians on the history of cricket; to showcase cricket heroes and to promote the game to the next generation of players.
The exhibition is being sponsored by the Berbice River Bridge Company and would be taken to over 22 schools including Skeldon Line Path, Tagore Memorial, Central Corentyne, Black Bush Polder, Winifred Gaskin Memorial, J.C. Chandisingh School, New Amsterdam Secondary, Berbice High and Rosignol.
Foster also noted that the exhibition would also be held in Corriverton, Port Mourant, Rose Hall Town and New Amsterdam markets along with other venues to be identified in Region 5.
A total of 17 banners featuring the careers of the Country’s 17 Test players including John Trim, Rohan Kanhai, Basil Butcher, Alvin Kalicharran and Assad Fudadin would be on display.
The exhibition would also feature Royston Crandon and Milton Pydana who only played ODI matches and the five Berbice females who played for the West Indies – Candace Atkins, Shemaine Campbelle, Erva Giddings, Subrina Munroe and Tremayne Smartt.
Berbice cricket records and profiles of outstanding administrators among others would also be displayed. Foster thanked his staff at the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club and BCB Office Administrator Alisa Moonsee for working overtime to document all the necessary information for the exhibition.
Special mention was also made of Mr. O. D Samaroo, CEO of the Berbice River Bridge Company and Mr. Sanjay Prittipaul of Rainbow Signs for their support.
