Guyana Under-15 opening batsman, Bhaskar Yadram will skipper defending champions Demerara in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Igloo Ice Cream U-15 Inter-County Two-Day cricket Competition.
The competition is scheduled to commence on Sunday and continue on Monday with the defending Champions putting their title on the line against a President’s X1 at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground in Queenstown in one of two matches in the opening round. The other first round game on Sunday will feature Essequibo and Berbice at Everest on same days.
Yosef Yisrael and Omadat Samaroo will be the on-field Umpires with Edward Bowen as the standby at DCC, while Kenalyn Baker and Delvin Austin will do on-field duties at Everest with Zaheer Mohamed as the standby. Both games are set to start at 09:30hrs.
Meanwhile, the Everest cricketer was named Captain after a two-day practice match at the DCC ground last Saturday and Sunday.
In the practice match Yadram’s XI got the better of Stephen Wilson’s XI. Batting first Yadram’s XI made 185 all out in 40.3 overs after Yadram hit an elegant 80, decorated with 10 boundaries. He got support from Sagar Hiathiramani (33) and Ashmead Nedd (23). Bowling for Wilson’s XI, Junior Phillips took 2-34, Ganesh Jitlall 2-23 and Wilson 2-20.
Wilson’s XI responded with for 102 in 44.2 overs, giving Yadram’s XI a lead of 83 runs after Christopher Campbell and Mark Ramsammy top-scored with 22 runs each, while Mark Baptise (3-12), Hiathiramani (2-11) and Nedd (2-23) were the most successful bowlers.
Yadram’s XI then piled on 183 runs for eight wickets in their second innings, giving Wilson’s XI, giving Wilson’s XI a target of 266 for victory. Kurt Lovell led the way with 44 and got support from Yadram 35, Nedd (24), Joshua Persaud 24 and Hiathiramani (22). Kenchandra Hardyal was the best bowler for the Wilson-led XI claiming 2/18.
Wilson’s XI were restricted to 122/7, 144 runs short of their target, when the umpires called off the match at 16:15 hrs. Alphius Bookie made 37, Mark Ramsammy (26) and Robin Williams (20). Ashmead Nedd grabbed 3/23 and Pradesh Balkisson 2/15.
