A labourer who faced the city court for hitting his spouse with a bicycle bar and assaulting the two police ranks who tried to arrest him was yesterday sentenced to prison after he confessed to a total of ten misdemeanors.
Orlando Grumble faced two counts of assault committed on his reputed wife, two counts of abusive language and single counts of disorderly behaviour, resisting arrest, threatening behaviour, indecent language, threatening language and assaulting a peace officer.
On March 14, last, he was taken before Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to respond to the charges. He pleaded not guilty to each.
Grumble’s case was being prosecuted by Lance Corporal Jomo Nichols.
The court heard that on February 19, he assaulted his reputed wife, Karen Bender on Charlotte Street and also used abuse language towards her.
He is charged too for using abusive and threatening language as well as assaulting the woman after he hit her with the bicycle bar on March 13, last, at Regent Street.
When Constable Kenrick Hodge attempted to execute his duties, Grumble used abusive language against him and assaulted him in an effort to resist arrest.
The man is charged for using indecent language too after he showered Constable Jonnel Shepherd with a stream of profanities.
His actions that day were perceived as disorderly thus he was slapped too with a disorderly behavior charge.
When brought before the court on March 14, he denied all claims but yesterday he opted to change his plea to guilty and was sentenced to three months in prison for each charge.
He is set to serve exactly six months in prison after Magistrate Chandan-Edmond declared that three months jail terms are expected to be served consecutively for assaulting Bender. The other eight charges were also exacted with three months in prison but they will run concurrently.
