DEAR EDITOR,
May those persons who have been so active in organising the various memorials to Arthur J. Seymour, be reminded to give thought to the appropriateness of the revival of his epic poem “The Legend of Kaieteur”, as set to music by Phillip Pilgrim.
I don’t recall of it having been orchestrated since Guyanese, Rudolph Dunbar, then retired Director of the BBC Radio Symphony Orchestra, came back to make a grand presentation at Queen’s College, as part of our Independence celebrations in 1966. The concert involved our own Philharmonic Orchestra accompanying a hundred-voice choir. There probably has not been any comparable event since.
Incidentally, Rudolph Dunbar was selected to conduct an International Symphony Orchestra in Berlin, as part of the Allied Forces’ celebrations of their victory over Germany in World War II.
E.B. John
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
