In an effort to encourage cycling and have more persons, especially youths, participate in the sport, the sponsor and coordinator of the recently concluded Benjamin Sports Store cycle race, former national cyclist, overseas based Wilbert Benjamin and family in honour of his father Sanko Benjamin’s 80th birthday, organised a special presentation
ceremony for the beginners that participated in the event.
The young riders took part in a specially organised seven miles event that started in front of the Benjamin Sports Store at Fyrish and proceeded to the University of Guyana Tain Berbice campus and back.
The event saw six participants, with David Simon winning the boys’ category from Symion Allicock. The girl’s race was won by Deancae Welch from Shemika Teixeira and overseas based Aaliyah Benjamin and Alexis Benjamin.
On Thursday the young cyclists were invited to the Benjamin Sports Store for the specially arranged ceremony where they were presented with their accolades that include trophies, medals, bags etc. by both Benjamin and Flying Ace club Coach Randolph Roberts.
The young cyclists were encouraged to continue in the sport and take their education seriously as education is the key to success. (Samuel Whyte)
