The High Court retrial of Charles Anthony Woolford is scheduled for commencement today.
Woolford was indicted in 2009 for the unlawful killing of his wife Latoya Conway Woolford.
The victim, a Festival City beautician, was stabbed several times about her body on February 8, 2009 at her Lot 2041 Hummingbird Street, Festival City, North Ruimveldt home, allegedly during a heated argument with her husband.
The hairdresser, a mother of three is said to have had her stomach sliced open during the ordeal. She succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Her husband, a self-employed construction worker at the time, tried to end his life by ingesting what is believed to be a poisonous liquid, a few hours after learning of his wife‘s demise.
He was hospitalized but was later released to face the murder charge.
Woolford made his initial appearance at the Georgetown Supreme Court before Justice James Bovell Drakes. However, the Judge ordered that he face a retrial after the Jury failed to reach a verdict, last August.
The accused who had maintained his innocence, pleaded not guilty to the indictment before Justice Navindra Singh, on Thursday after a mixed 12- member jury was empanelled.
Attorneys -at -Law Peter Hugh and Latchmie Rahamat will be providing legal counsel for the accused, while Prosecutor Dionne McCammon will be representing the state in the matter.
