Quick response by police officers attached to the Suddie and Aurora police stations, on the Essequibo Coast came in for high praises after they helped prevent a former New Opportunity Corps student from escaping to Georgetown with a number of items she had stolen from an Onderneeming resident, with whom she was staying.
The teen was subsequently pardoned by the Onderneeming resident after her arrest.
The former NOC student was released three months ago after being incarcerated at the juvenile facility and was rescued by the Onderneeming resident after she expressed a concern of not having anywhere to go.
Reports have indicated that on the day of the incident, the teen carted away a suitcase filled with items belonging to the Onderneeming resident. The haul included a digital camera, jewellry, a cellular phone, a laptop computer and clothing belonging to the kind resident and her children.
According to the Onderneeming resident, another sister from her church had asked her to accommodate a teenaged boy and girl subsequent to their release from the NOC. She took in the teenage girl and had found a job for the boy who ended up staying with another family.
The disturbed resident said on the day of the incident she travelled to Anna Regina to conduct business. Upon her return to the Suddie car park, she noticed the NOC teen dressed in her clothing and armed with her suitcase attempting to board a car.
After questioning the teen about her intentions, the Onderneeming resident said that she wasn’t given a proper response. She said that she was still unsure what the teen was carrying in her suitcase and decided to inform the police at Suddie, who later informed their colleagues at Aurora.
She said the police acted swiftly and managed to apprehend the teen who had already boarded a speedboat at Supenaam. The teen was subsequently taken to the Suddie Police station where she was questioned.
The resident was however more concerned with having her stuff returned to her. She also stated that she did not wish to have the teen prosecuted.
The young lady was subsequently pardoned by the Onderneeming resident, who vowed never to take her back in her home.
