Khan is cricketer of the year
Stephen Lewis was elected unopposed as president of the Everest Cricket Club when the body held its Annual General Meeting on Friday night last at the club’s pavilion.
Outgoing president Rajesh Singh was elected the senior vice president while the junior vice president is Carmachand Rambarran. Manichan Rai will serve as the secretary and Paul Parsram the assistant secretary. The treasurer is Royston Rachpaul and the assistant treasurer is Anthony Ramprasad.
Saheed Mohamed will perform duties as the club captain and the committee members are Harry Yankana, Mohamed Azeez, Mark Singh and Looknauth Persaud.
Meanwhile, Leg spinner Amir Khan, who was recently called up to the national team, won the club’s cricketer of the year award when club held its annual awards ceremony on the said night. Left arm spinner Javed Rasheed won the bowler of the year prize, while Troy Gonsalves grabbed the batsman of the year trophy and Darshan Persaud the emerging cricketer of the year accolade.
Johnny Azeez took the Masters bowler of the year prize and Hemraj Garbarran the batsman of the year award in the said division.
Speaking after the elections, Lewis thanked the members for their confidence and lauded the past president and executive for their stewardship, pledged to incite, energies and sound management. He urged his fellow executive members to work as a unit for the development of the club adding that the organisation will host a number of activities in 2014 to mark their 100th anniversary and called on the members for their support.
Rajesh Singh thanked the members for their support during his tenure as president and advised the cricketers present to take the game seriously.
