The murder trial of two Corentyne men who are accused of murdering another will commence today in the Berbice High Court.
The matter was postponed for one week following the discharge of the jury after a few days and then another day’s wait when the matter restarted.
On trial for murder are Joshua Persaud, called ‘Sunny Boy’ and ‘Bun Boy’, and Raphael Rene Morrison, called “Red Head”. They are indicted for the June 3, 2013 murder of Marlon Andrew Ramcharran who was 18 at the time. The murder occurred on a street in Block C Tain New Housing area.
Justice Diana Insanally and a mixed jury in the Berbice High Court will hear the matter.
After the indictment was read on Thursday, defence attorney Mursaline Bacchus asked to make some preliminary submissions in the absence of the jury before the jury was empanelled.
Mr. Bacchus and State Prosecutor Renita Singh addressed the judge up to Friday.
In the end the jury was empanelled.
