Dear Editor,
The efforts made to clean up the city for the Mashramani celebrations is commendable. This effort however needed to be sustained. It is always such a nice feeling to see the city looking clean and free from garbage.
I have always held the view that Georgetown is perhaps one of the best cities in the Caribbean in terms of its architecture and layout but the way the city is kept and managed continue to disappoint.
It is particularly heart rending to see the condition of several buildings which ought to be the pride of this nation in such an advanced state of decay. I refer in particular to the City Hall which is arguably one of the most beautiful structures in the entire Caribbean if not beyond.
The Brickdam Cathedral is another such building which can do with some major infrastructural overhaul. The time is long overdue for something substantial to be done to restore some of our landmark buildings to their former glory.
