A 52-year-old painter was shot dead by a lone gunman on bicycle in front of his house at Lot 22 Coconut Walk and Callendar Street, Albouystown, around 05:30 hrs yesterday.
The dead man has been identified has Vibert Samuels, a father of three. He was shot once to the back and was pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
The dead man’s sister, Maureen Samuels, who lives next door to him, said that she was in her bed and heard an argument in the alleyway.
“I hear this man saying ‘don’t (expletive) fight back and then I hear a gunshot and a scream.”
The woman said that she immediately ran to her window to peek and noticed a man lying on the muddy dam, while another man was about to hop onto his bicycle. “He (gunman) jump onto his bicycle and left.”
According to Ms. Samuels, after the gunman left, she ran outside after recognizing it was her brother. “When I run out, he was motionless. His pocket was out and he does normally keep pain killers in his pocket, and that was on the dam next to him.”
The dead man’s sister added that Samuels had an orange in one of his hands.
“We tried talking to him but he didn’t answer. The neighbours come out and his daughter took him to the hospital.”
The woman said that her brother would normally leave early in the morning to purchase oranges from a nearby vendor. Investigations are ongoing.
