Auto spares dealer, Deokaran Sanasie, who survived an execution attempt last Friday, has reportedly told investigators that he can identify the gunman who shot him.
Kaieteur News understands that Sanasie, the owner of Ram’s Auto Spares, provided investigators with a description of the gunman and his associate, who fled the scene on a CG motorcycle.
Police are also said to be in possession of a recorded conversation in which a relative of one of the alleged plotters implicated a female and another individual in the plan to kill Sanasie.
Kaieteur News was told that the relative telephoned Sanasie the day after he was shot and claimed that he was present when the individuals were making their plans.
Police ranks were reportedly at the hospital when the call was made and they recorded the conversation, a source said.
The relative allegedly pleaded in vain with the individuals not to go through with their plan.
“This man (the relative) keep telling Sanasie that he was begging the two persons not to kill that man (Sanasie) because he is a nice person but they did not listen,” the source said.
This newspaper was also informed that the businessman reported seeing three suspicious-looking persons in a car on Sunday night in front of his home. Efforts to contact him yesterday were futile.
Sanasie had told Kaieteur News on Sunday that he was informed that hit-men received $6M to kill him. He also said that it wasn’t difficult for him to “pin-point” his female associate as the person who would want to see him dead.
He said that for the past several years, he and the woman were experiencing problems with their relationship.
“We were not living nice. Things from the house started to vanish and she always lying to me. My jewelry disappeared and a diamond bracelet that I paid US$7000 for, vanished. I made a report and the police said that my (partner) can do anything because we are in a relationship.”
Sanasie also said that he recently sold a property for US$100,000 and was waiting to collect the money.
He believed that the female associate, who knew about the transaction, wanted to “bump him off” in order to get her hands on the cash.
The businessman of Lot 129 Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara (ECD), had also told this publication that “Guyanese did the work, so I know what happened. There are a lot of killers in this country and they called one another and tell them who were a part of the shooting and how much was paid.”
Kaieteur News was told that Sanasie’s female associate and a male relative were planning to take over his business.
Police detained an Albouystown man and impounded a CG motorcycle some hours after a gunman shot Sanasie.
Police also detained the businessman’s wife, Patricia Sanasie and her brother, Vishnu Persaud on Sunday. They were all still in custody yesterday.
