Diallo Jamal Shabazz was elected unopposed to the helm when the Roadrunners Track and Field Club held its Annual General Meeting at the Y.M.C.A, Thomas Lands, Friday, February 7 last.
Former Vice President, National boxing coach, Wensel Thomas, declined a nomination to retain his position citing strong commitments in the boxing field, but nevertheless accepted the less demanding portfolio of Organizing Secretary making way for Allison Tinnis to fill that portfolio, while Royston McDonald is the 2nd Vice President.
The Secretary is Shelton Beckles while the treasurer is Narine Ramroop. Marilyn Gibson has been elected as the Assistant Secretary Treasurer with Rawle Franklyn filing the post of Public Relations Officer.
The Committee Members are Nigel Siland, Eusi Harlequin, Terrence Alleyne and Kenneth Assanah. Virlyn Gibson, an U14 Silver Medalist high jumper at the 2013 National School Championship, was appointed Club Captain, while Shabazz, Thomas, Royston McDonald, Narine Ramroop and Nigel Siland are the appointed coaches with Major General (Ret’d) Norman McLean filling the esteemed position of patron of the club.
The Committee members are Rawle Franklyn, Nigel Siland, Eusi Harlequin, Terrence Alleyne and Kenneth Assanah. Former AAG President, Claude Blackmore, is the Technical Director.
Meanwhile, officials of the AAG have acknowledged awareness of the elections but said that the process will only be completed when those officials would have satisfied the criteria of registering the club with the parent body.
Meanwhile, officials of the Roadrunners Track and Field Club have expressed gratitude to President Donald Ramotar for support rendered leading up to the elections.
Several other entities and individuals also came in for high praise including Major General (ret’d), Norman McLean, Lt Col (ret’d) Larry London, Compton Mendonca, Dr. Carl Max Hanoman, Director of DeSinco, Frank DeAbreu, Director of Youth and Sports, Neil Kumar, Mohamed’s Enterprise, Les Ramalho, Rudy Grant, Noble House Seafoods, Kaieteur News Publisher, Glenn Lall, GT&T, Vic Inshanally of Guyenterprise, Director of Marketing (Banks DIH), George McDonald and Marco Trading.
