The Supenaam Ferry Stelling is scheduled to undergo extensive repairs to sections of the ramp area that are currently aligned with metal sheets. Two pieces of heavy duty equipment were transported on one of the Chinese ferries.
One excavator owned by Rice Miller Ramesh Ramlakan, of Ex-Mouth Village was transported on the ferry on January 29, last.
A Bulldozer owned by Vishnu Seepersaud weighing 14.8 tonnes was shipped on January 30.
In December there was the movement of an excavator, from Parika to Supenaam. This was owned by Rambarran.
Another piece, a Bobcat excavator, owned by another rice miller, Nazmul Hakh, of Golden Fleece Estate was transported on the ferry on January 3, last.
According to information received from the Stelling at Supenaam, both pieces of equipment were weighed and allowed to be transported on the boats.
Officials said that the weight of the equipment and the impact of the tracks on the ramp would destroy any surface. Usually, such equipment would be transported on a low bed. In the absence of the low bed the stelling has suffered damage which cannot be blamed on the contractor, one official said.
