Seven teams will battle for a first prize of $300,000 when the East Bank Football Association kicks off its Stag Beer Premiere League at the Grove Community Centre Ground February 9 next.
Activities got underway yesterday morning when Ansa McAl continued to demonstrate a staunch corporate spirit and donated the prize money towards the success of the tournament.
President of the East Bank FA, Wayne Francois journeyed to the Beterverwagting office of the sponsor yesterday morning to receive the sponsorship package and was joined by his Assistant Secretary, Noel Harry, and Secretary Franklyn Wilson. Stag Beer Brand Coordinator (Ansa McAl), John Maikoo handed over the sponsorship package to the football officials and extended good luck wishes to them in their endeavours.
“This is our second year of partnering with the East Bank Football Association in our commitment to football development and I must point out that we have always remained committed to the development of the sport,” advocated Mr. Maikoo.
Mr. Francois expressed appreciation to his benefactor while pointing out that his organization has benefitted from such largesse since 2010. He said that the organizers are also contemplating two additional venues – Grove, which has recently undergone rehabilitative works and the Timehri Red ground. The organizers have also disclosed that patrons will be asked to contribute a small entrance fee as against the past when they were allowed free admission.
In all, more than M$1.5M has been allocated for organizational work, with the second and third place finishers receiving $150,000 and $100,00 respectively. The fourth place finisher receives $50,000.
Participating teams are Herstelling FC, Kuru Kururu Warriors, Grove Hi Tec, Diamond United, Soesdyke Falcons, Timehri Panthers and Mocha Champs.
