Potential action packed encounters as tournament hits homestretch
Four teams out of Georgetown will clash with a similar number from the West Coast Demerara to determine the
semi-finalists and consequently the finalists when action in the Mayor Hamilton Green’s 79th birth anniversary, Inter Ward/Village, 7-a side knock-out football competition continues at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground this Sunday, January 12.
Activities get underway at 14:00hrs with North Ruimveldt taking on Sand Lodge in the first quarter final match followed by North East against Pouderoyen half hour later. The other two quarter final encounters will see South Sophia against Uitvlugt and Kitty tackling Den Amstel. The respective winners will then go on to play in the semi finals and consequently, those winners will face off in the finals, scheduled to get underway at 17:00hrs.
Several popular footballers will be on show and are expected to heighten the action. They include Jamal Harvey, Jeffery Pereira, Devon Millington, Joshua Kamal, Andre Hector, Ashley Harding, Andrew Murray and Delon Lanferman among others.
The eventual champions will take home $100,000 while the runners-up receive half that amount.
Several corporate entities have combined towards the success of the tournament including Macorp, GT&T, Guyana Lotto Company, Chris Fernandes, Giftland Office Max, James Bovell of City College, Mark Bender Jermaine Langevine and Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall. The latter entity has donated the winner’s trophy.
