Ghana – The Western Naval Command on Tuesday arrested a foreign vessel
carrying 21 bags of a substance suspected to be cocaine.
The vessel, “ATIYAH, George-Town”, according to a source, was travelling from Guyana arrested and was escorted by Ghana Naval Ship, Yaa Asantewaa, to the Sekondi Naval Base.
The five men on board the ship together with the substances have been flown by a Military Helicopter to the Nation’s Capital, Accra, for further investigation.
According to news reports, the vessel was a fishing one believed to have been registered as a trawler in James Town, a suburb of Accra, had had part of it converted and was being used to haul the cocaine.
The crew, including four Guyanese and one Ghanaian, have been arrested and handed over to the National Security and the Narcotics Control Board for investigations.
