The Mayor Hamilton Green 79th Birthday 7-a-side Inter-Ward/Village Football tournament has advanced to its latter stages with action continuing on Friday at the Tucville ground from 7:00pm following opening night games last
weekend.
All the teams appearing Friday would have won their respective matches on opening night and the scheduled fixtures read: Sara Lodge vs Wales, Crane vs Pouderoyen, Uitvlugt vs Newtown Kitty, Den Amstel vs Berlin, South Sophia vs bent Street, North East la Penitence vs North Sophia, Tuschen vs Leopold Street and Meadow Brook vs Kitty.
The winners collide on Sunday December 1 when the quarterfinals, semifinals and final are staged at the Den Amstel ground.
Joshua Kamal of South Sophia, Joshua Brown and Vurlon Mills of Meadow Brook will be some of the leading players on show representing their respective wards or villages.
Several corporate entities and persons have lent their support to the event so far. Among them are GT&T, MACORP, Chris Fernandes, Ricks and Sari, who will give hampers of their products to the winners and runner-up, Guyana Lottery Company, New Thriving Restaurant, Eddie Grant and Giftland Office Max.
The winner collects $100,000 and the Trophy Stall Trophy donated by Ramesh Sunich, with the runner-up claiming $50,000 and the Ricks and Sari Trophy. Both teams also collect hampers from Ricks and Sari.
The 7-a-side games are of 20 minutes duration, that’s two halves of 10 minutes, being contested. Three substitutions will be allowed per team during matches with penalties determining a winner in the event of a stalemate.
