Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) defeated Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) by 54 runs when play in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)\Carib Beer first division T20 tournament continued on Monday at DCC ground.
DCC got off to a bright start after they won the toss and decided to bat with openers Andrew Lyght Jr. and Trevon Griffith adding 80 before Lyght was bowled by Shaquille Williams for 37 (2×6 3×4).
Griffith followed shortly, trapped leg before to Steven Sankar for 58 (4×6 4×4). Christopher Barnwell came to the crease and immediately upped the scoring rate but was caught in the deep off a slower delivery from Kellon Carmichael for 44 (5×6 1×4).
DCC then lost a few more wickets in the hunt for quick runs and ended with 199-7 off their allotted overs. Cordell Mars grabbed 2-28, Kellon Carmichael 2-35 and Steven Sankar 2-36.
MSC reply got off to a terrible start when their Captain Shemroy Barrington was trapped in front in the first over bowled by Paul Wintz. Andrea Stoll then removed Shaquille Williams in the second over to leave the score at 12-2.
Carmichael and Nikose Barker steadied the chase with a stand of 62 before Barker was dismissed by left arm spinner Totaram Bishun for 20 (2×6). Carmichael soon brought up his half century by hitting Bishun over the midwicket boundary; he was eventually dismissed for 64 (5×6 4×4).
A late flurry from Sankar was not enough to take his team home as they ended on 145-7 when the overs expired. Sankar finished on 34 not out (3×6) while Bishun, Wintz and Dexter George claimed two wickets apiece for the winners.
