2013\2014 tourney launched
Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) were declared champions of the 2012-2013 Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)\ Hadi’s World Incorporated City Mall first division 2 day competition and collected their prizes. DCC gained 136 points to edge Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) with 134 points; GNIC placed third with 122 points.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony held last evening at the Georgetown Cricket Club, president of the GCA Roger Harper thanked the sponsor and players who participated in the tournament. Harper stated the wants to see players representing Georgetown, Demerara, Guyana and the West Indies with distinction.
Players receiving awards were Rajendra Chandrika of Everest for being the batsman with the highest individual score (222 vs TSC), Shaheed Mohamed best bowler (7-43 vs GCC), Leon Johnson (GCC) bowler with the most wickets (22), Rajendra Chandrika batsman with the highest score (449), Devon Charles (GCC) best fielder, Johnson best all-rounder and MVP (291 runs and 22 wickets).
GNIC received a trophy and $40,000 for being the third place team, while GCC collected a trophy and $80,000 and DCC a trophy and $120,000; members of the runner up and winning teams were given medals.
Captain of DCC Christopher Barnwell thanked the sponsor and GCA; he also wished the other teams well in the 2013-2014 competition which was also launched last evening.
Speaking on behalf of Hadi’s at the launching of the 2013\2014 tournament,
Desmond Helwig said they are pleased to be associated with cricket and lauded the GCA for a well organized 2012\2013 competition which is expected to commence next weekend.
