Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) have secured their places in the final of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)\ New Building Society (NBS) second division 40-over tournament after recording convincing victories in their respective semifinal matches over the weekend.
Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) defeated Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) by 7 wickets in the first semifinal on Saturday at Bourda. GYO were pegged back by incisive fast bowling from pacers Jamal Anderson and Bernard Bailey after they decided to bat. They never really recovered after losing a few early wickets and were bowled out for 70 in 24 overs. Extras were their main contributor with 18, while Loakesh Reid made 16, Dereck Koulin 11 and Carlos Reid 9.
Left arm spinner Devon Lord was the pick of the bowlers with 3-4 from 5 overs, while Bailey finished with 3-23 from 6 and Anderson 2-19 from 6.
GCC replied with 72-3 in 12.3 overs with Winston Forrester and Martin Pestano-Belle scoring 21 each and Elon Fernandes ended unbeaten on 20. G. Suknandan claimed 2-11 and Mohendra Geenarine 1-7.
On Sunday at the said venue, Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) hammered Transport Sports Club (TSC) by 6 wickets. Medium pacer Anthony Ifill justified MYO decision to insert TSC by rocking the top order with purposeful bowling. He finished with figures of 5-20 off 8 overs as TSC were skittled for a paltry 65 in 20.1 overs. Shafeek Ishmile supported Ifill with 2-13. Oslyn Batson top scored for TSC with 20 (2×4) and Sunil Singh made 13.
MYO in reply suffered a few nervous moments before they won the game in 13 overs for the lost of 4 wickets, ending on 66.
Zulfikar Ali stroked 25 with five fours, Zamal Khan chipped in with 19 and Richard Latiff 12. Off spinner Azeem Azeez took all four wickets to fall, finishing with 4-23 in 3.3 overs.
The final will be played between GCC and MYO at Bourda on November 3.
