Six of the country’s top junior players will be in action today in what is expected to be an epic show down in the finals of the Inaugural Courts Junior Tennis tournament.
Under 18’s #1 Nicola Ramdyhan, Antigua’s Under 14’s Champion Afruica Gentle, Gavin Lewis, Daniel Lopes are among the players who would be in action at the National Racquet Center vying for supremacy in the finals of the 18’s division.
Beginning at 10:00hrs Keshon Reece and the ever improving 11yr old Jordan Beaton clash for the Under 14 Boys Title.
The Under 18 girls take to the court at noon. Gentle comes in as the favorite against Ramdyhan who has not found the year to her liking on the regional circuit, especially in her most recent tournament where she lost in the first round.
Both players, coming into the finals would have won comprehensively against much weaker opponents with Gentle blasting her way through her semi-finals 6-0, 6-0 against Johanna Ramsammy. Gentle is local tennis’s newest sensation and she has been receiving positive reviews from players and coaches on the local and international circuit.
The Boys on the other had will do battle from 14:30hrs, where long time friends and national team mates Gavin Lewis and Daniel Lopes will once again prove their position as National Boys Champion. Lopes the more consistent player enters the tournament as the favorite, on the back of recent comprehensive victory against opponents who are known to be tricky players, notably Craig Campbell (Semi-finals) 6-1, 6-0.
Lewis mean time is no slouch with the racquets and he would be going guns blazing for the coveted trophy match. He too had an impressive win in his semi-final encounter, when he took out Keshon Reece 6-1,6-0.
The Closing Ceremony for the Tournament will commence at 16:30hrs. All players will be in attendance.
