Abdalla Hamilton, the son of Member of Parliament, Joe Hamilton, was shot at least two times by bandits who robbed him of some $2 million yesterday afternoon, outside of the High Court. The young Hamilton was rushed to the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital nursing gunshots to the thigh and groin.
The young man’s father, Joe Hamilton, told Kaieteur News that his son had just left a city bank on Camp Street and was in front of the High Court, heading to the Deeds Registry. He said that while his son was outside the court he was attacked by two gunmen who relieved him of $2 million.
According to Hamilton, the money was part of a second phase of a bank loan his son had secured since he was in the process of building a home at La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara. The father further told Kaieteur News that his son was rushed to the hospital by an off duty police officer who is a family friend. He said that the policeman was in the vicinity at the time of the shooting.
Hamilton added that his son’s condition was stable. One security guard at the High Court told Kaieteur News that he saw the men approach Hamilton and seconds later heard gunshots. Two persons were seen running back to a motorcycle. The police are continuing investigations into the shooting.
Hamilton is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital having been transferred from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Up to the time of the shooting, he was employed with the One Laptop Per Family project.
