A fine half century by David Lukenauth guided Universal DVD Berbice Titans to a seven wicket victory over R1 when action in the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc. (GSCL Inc) 12\12 tournament continued yesterday at the Everest Cricket Club.
R1 batted first and scored 92 all out in 12 overs with Karim Baksh top scoring with 22, while Brian Mangar supported with 20. Chandrashakker Arjune claimed 3-19, David Lukenauth 2-17 and Totaram Seenanand 2-17. Lukenauth then fashioned a fine 56 and got support from Rajiv Ivan 20 as Titans responded with 94-3 in 7.2 overs.
Recharge XI went down to Speed Boat by 9 wickets in another fixture. Recharge XI took first turn at the crease and managed 92 before they were bowled out in 11 overs. Yougonand Narine made 20, Vickram Kissoon 19 and Travis Drakes 15. Speed Boat XI replied with 95-1 in 9.1 overs. Omesh Narine stroked 52 while Wazir Hussain supported with 30.
Defending champions Memorex triumphed over R 1 by 9 wickets. R 1 took first strike and scored 128-6 in 12 overs. Khalid Baksh made 35 and Gavindra Sharma assisted with 19; John Perry snared 3-42.
Alvin Ramdass then slammed 66, while Shimron Hetymer made 37 and Roy Jafferally 32 as Memorex responded with 134-1 in 8.1 overs.
Recharge XI defeated B M Auto Spares Better Hope by 46 runs. Recharge XI batted first and posted 135-9 in 12 overs. Ricardo Adams was their leading batsman with 32 while Travis Drakes supported with 28; Kapildev Singh grabbed 4 wickets and Sachin 2 for Better Hope who were restricted for 89-9 in 12 overs in reply. Azad Mohamed 26 and Suraj Boodhoo 25 were the batsmen that offered resistance as P. Omadatt claimed 3-15, S. Mohamed 2-14 and Drakes 2-21.
Better Hope overcame Speed Boat by 7 wickets. Speed Boat took first strike and scored 128-7 12 overs. Wazir Hussain top scored with 48 and Greg Singh made 27. Wayne Narine grabbed 3-18 and Ajay Singh 2-26. Better Hope replied with 129-3 in 11 overs. Chris Deonarine led with 35, Sunil Seeraj supported with 30 and Sachin Singh chipped in with 23 not out. Peter Alleyne took 2-25.
Memorex got the better of Titans by 8 runs. Memorex mustered 92-8 in 12 overs, batting first. Alvin Ramdass top scored with 31, Roy Jafferally supported with 27 and Shimron Hetymer made 15; Mahendra Baldeo claimed 2-7 and Nathan Punwasi 2-11. Titans were bowled out for 84 in 11.5 overs in reply. Chandrashakar Arjune made 21 and David Looknauth 17. Vikander Mohammad captured 2-10; Keon Sinclair took 2-16 and Vishal Phillips 2-27 for the winners.
The competition continues on Saturday with quarter final action. Wolfs’ Warriors will tackle Universal DVD Berbice Titans in what is expected to be a keenly contested affair; Invaders will face defending champions Memorex, Trophy Stall will take on Speed Boat and Regal XI will play Recharge XI.
