Twenty-three-year-old Javed Persaud is the only Guyanese that was successful at the preliminary examination of the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association (WICUA) which was held on July 28 at Demerara Cricket Club.
Persaud, who gained 83.5 % told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that he is happy with the result and is looking forward to practice on the field in preparation for further exams which are the final written, Oral and Practical.
“My aim is to become a fully qualified umpire and I am working hard to attain that feat”, he added.
Persaud stated that he wishes to officiate in International matches and would like to thank the Almighty for his success. He also credited umpires Eddie Nicholls, Shannon Crawford, Nigel Duguid, Colin Alfred and Ryan Banwarie for assisting him. Seven other locals also wrote the exams.
