Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) beat University-of- Guyana (UG) by 31 runs yesterday at Bourda in latest action in the NBS 40-over second division cricket tournament.
Martin Pestano-Belle continued his good form over the weekend by following up his 78 on Saturday with 38 as GCC scored 199-8 off their allotted 40 overs. Pacer Bernard Bailey (4-37) and Winston Forrester (3-32) conspired to dismiss UG for 168 in 37.5 overs.
Played in brilliant sunshine on a slow track and lush green outfield, GCC were off to a solid start with Pestano-Belle and Alex Ramalho, who made 17, putting together 53 for the first wicket.
Forrester (37) and Gavon Charles (14) also reached double figures for the Bourda Blues as former National under-19 all-rounder Royston Alkins picking up 4-26 with his off-spin. Dennis Haywood supported with 2-23 for UG.
Dwayne Dodson led the fight for the students with a well played 39, while Kumar Bridgelall (29), Clevon Hyman (26), Leon Williams (20) and Alkins (18) kept the UG hopes alive briefly.
