The long inclement weather period is seemingly coming to an end and the Berbice Cricket Board has quickly taken to opportunity to organise some cricket action in the Ancient County. The BCB is taking the opportunity to run off the 2013 Republic Bank Under-17 Inter-zone Cricket Competition which will begin tomorrow at the Albion Community Centre Ground.
As usual, Berbice has been divided up into four geographical zones -West Berbice, East Bank/New Amsterdam/Canje, Lower Corentyne and Upper Corentyne. The competition, now in its fifty year, will consist of one-day-two innings matches each of which will start at 09:00 hours with the first innings of each team limited to sixty (60) Overs.
The two semi-finals are scheduled for tomorrow and Tuesday with Lower Corentyne taking on West Berbice at Albion tomorrow, while the other one between defending champion East Bank/New Amsterdam/Canje and Upper Corentyne is fixed for the Cumberland Ground on Tuesday with Albion being an alternative venue.
Three of the squads have been named with West Berbice, Lower Corentyne and
East Bank/New Amsterdam/Canje naming their players. Upper Corentyne was still to name their players.
The squads are: West Berbice: Grisean Grant captain, Adrian Singh, Mohan Deodat , Randy Wade, Navendra Mahadeo, Akeem Miller, Shawn smith, Jason Johansen, Bramdat Singh, Loris Ramnarine, Imran Imitiaz, Terrence Dhanraj, Kishun Arjune and Parmanand Ramdhan.
Lower Corentyne: Daniel Lewis (captain) Balchand Baldeo, Ritesh Omrow, Brandon Persaud, Joshua Harrichan, Jason Anderson, S. Dookhna, Navendra Permaul, Kevindra Persaud, Asif Ali, Asif Khan, Veeramootoo Senwansane, Daniel Samaroo and Joshua Gobin.
East Bank/New Amsterdam/Canje will come from – Shimron Hetmyer (captain), Leon Andrews, Jerome Andrews Jnr, Clifton Lindie, Steve Deonarine, Filon Crandon, Kyle Michael, Kevin Sinclair, Devon Anderson, Jalim Jafar, Isaiah Lewis, Omar Weatherspoon and A. Thomas. (Samuel Whyte)
