The fugitive has told Kaieteur News that he is employed as a porter with the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA). He had promised to hire a lawyer and turn himself in.
He had also claimed that he had acted in self-defence after his spouse pushed him and attacked him with a chopper.
The incident occurred on Tuesday and stemmed from accusations of infidelity. The husband had allegedly come home and seen his spouse and a female friend drinking with a man. The man reportedly had to seek refuge in another house after the suspect threatened him with a stick.
The irate husband was detained briefly at the Turkeyen Police Station but was eventually released on $10,000 station bail. Shameeza Mohamed said that she was packing her belongings to go to her mother’s home when her spouse returned and began to stab and slash her. He then left the scene while friends took her to hospital.
