Half centuries by Opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Akshay Homraj put Guyana in a comfortable position at the end of the first day in the third round of the Regional U-19 Three day tournament which commenced yesterday in St. Kitts. Guyana closed the day at 266-6 with Homraj 58 and Captain Shawn Perreira on 33. They were given a bright start by Shimron Hetymer and Tagenarine Chanderpaul after they were inserted by the Windwards Islands at Conaree.
The pair added 47 for the opening stand before Hetymer, who was once again asked to open the batting instead of Brain Sattaur, was trapped leg before to Gabriel in the 23rd over for 19. Chanderpaul was then joined by Sattaur the pair batted sensibly as the y took the score to 111 before Sattaur after looking well set for a half century was dismissed for 46 in the 29th over. Kamesh Yadram soon followed for 4 as Guyana slipped to 138-3, but Chanderpaul continued to bat positively and soon reached his fifty. Ricardo Adams was then bowled by Martin for 15 at 154-4 in 42 overs. Chanderpaul and Pereira added 38 for the fifth wicket before Chanderpaul was dismissed for 66. Guyana lost Romario Shepherd a duck; both fell to Lewis 2-20. Pereira and Akshay Homraj then frustrated the opposition with a seventh wicket stand of 90.
