The 15th FINA World Championships (comprising the disciplines of Swimming, Open Water Swimming, Diving, Synchronised Swimming and Water Polo) is underway in Barcelona, Spain. For the first time, the Championships also include High Diving. During these Championships, there will also be FINA General and Technical Congresses.
The Championships started on July 19 and will continue to August 4, with Guyana participating in swimming which starts on tomorrow.
Team Guyana comprises Earlando McRae (50m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke), Niall Roberts (50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly) and Britany van Lange (50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle). They are accompanied by Coach Stephanie Fraser and GASA Secretary Omodelle George, who will represent GASA at the FINA Congress. The team left Guyana on Sunday, July 21st and arrived in Barcelona on Monday.
Niall will be the first Guyanese in the water on day 1 (July 28) of the competition, when he swims the 50m Butterfly – going in with an entry time of 26.70. Earlando will be next on day 3 (July 30), 50m Breaststroke; entry time: 33.38.
On day 5 (August 1), Britany van Lange swims the 100m Freestyle; 1:01.62. Both Mc Rae and Roberts will be in the 50m Freestyle on day 6 (August 2) – Mc Rae has not swum this event within the qualification period so will be entered as “NT” (no time); Roberts’s entry time is 24.84.
Guyana’s final swim will be van Lange’s 50m Freestyle on day 7 (August 3); entry time 28.80.
