In an effort to get residents involved in what is happening in their respective communities the Regional Six Regional Administration has made an unprecedented move and has taken the signing of contracts to the community in which the work would be done.
The contracts herald the first set to be signed for the year. Two sets were signed on Friday at the- Number 52-74 and at the Black Bush NDC offices.
Among the contracts signed were for the rehabilitation of roads, bridges, sluices, canals and a hospital. The contracts totaled in excess of $60 Million.
At the first signing which took place at the 52-74 NDC Office at No 51 village some $25 million has been earmarked to be spent in the area. Among the contracts awarded is for the rehabilitation of Foot Path Bridge at Crabwood Creek, the rehabilitation of the double door sluice at Number 35 Village, the excavation of the Manarabisi Canal, the excavation of the Essex Façade, and a cross street at Number 65 Village.
Over at Black Bush Polder seven more contracts were signed for work to be done in the Black Bush Polder area. Works there will include the rehabilitation of the Post Office Street, the construction of concrete bridges at Mibikuri and Lesbeholden, and the construction of a kitchen at the Black Bush Polder Hospital.
There is to be, too, the rehabilitation of the doctor’s quarters at the Black Bush Polder Hospital and the rehabilitation of a road at South Field, Joanna Black Bush Polder.

Region Six chairman, David Armogan, stated that the administration is trying to do things differently as such the idea of taking the signing out into the community. He wants residents to be vigilant and report any misgiving to the relevant authorities.
He also stated that the region is placing great emphasis on quality and the timeliness of work and contractors who failed to deliver will be penalized. He also stated that the liability period has been extended from three months to six months. Instead of three months, the contractors will have to wait for six months after the job has been completed to collect 10 percent of their money which will be retained barring any deterioration of the projects as a result of bad works done.
They will have to fix that work or will not be paid, Armogan warned. (Samuel Whyte)
