Congratulations to Dr Lakshmi Persaud
THE ARTS JOURNAL AND THE ARTS FORUM INC congratulates Dr Lakshmi Persaud who will be among six persons at the 2013 graduation ceremonies of The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine campus, to be conferred with honorary doctorates in recognition of their stellar contributions to the development of Trinidad & Tobago and the wider Caribbean.
Dr Persaud gained international eminence for her literary works. After completing her BA (Hons) and her PhD at Queen’s University, Belfast, Ireland, and Postgraduate Diploma in Education at Reading University, UK, Dr Persaud returned to the Caribbean where she taught at the secondary school level in Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Barbados.
She again travelled to the United Kingdom where she began a career as a novelist, short-story writer and literary commentator. She has authored five books, one of which, Butterfly in the Wind was a ‘best book’ selection by the London Library Association.
Dr. Lakshmi Persaud is married to Guyanese-born Professor Bishnodat Persaud who spent nineteen years in the service of the Commonwealth Secretariat, the last eleven of which (1981-1992) he was Director and Head of the Economic Affairs Division.
