Rain forced the abandonment of the first day’s play in the rescheduled Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)\Guyana and Trinidad Mutual Fire and Life General Insurance Company (GTM) 3-day Inter County competition yesterday without a ball being bowled in the Berbice/President’s X1 match.
Persistent overnight and early morning showers left sections of the Everest Cricket Club outfield under water. However match officials were hoping that play would have started later in the day, but despite the hard work by the grounds men, the Umpires were forced to call off play at 14:00hrs.
Today is the second day and play is schedule to start at 09:30 hrs, weather permitting.
Demerara vs Essequibo
The story was the same over at the Eve Leary Ground, where Umpires Shannon Crawford and Cyril Garnath called off play just before Tea on the opening day between hosts Demerara and Essequibo without a ball being bowled due to a soggy outfield.
Heavy overnight and early morning rain left puddles of water on the outfield and although the covered pitch remained dry and the sun came out in all of its glory, the damage was already done.
Both teams expressed disappointment in not being able to start the contest but added that no one controls the weather. They are anticipating a full day’s play today on day two, which is scheduled to commence at 09:30 to make up some of the time lost yesterday.
