Several Karate practitioners out of the Karate College and the YMCA are currently undergoing stiff training and will depart Guyana shortly to attend the Caribbean Karate Championships slated for Barbados from July 10-14 next.
Sensei Jeffrey Wong and Sensei Lavern Jones are the Coaches and they are currently tutoring the karatekas to top form in anticipation of lucrative medals.
Yesterday afternoon, Sensei Wong took his charges through their paces at the upper floor of the Malteenoes Cricket Club Pavilion and he said that he is confident that they will do well at the impending championships.
Meanwhile, Vice President and Public Relations Officer of the Guyana Karate College, Wayne Orderson, shared Mr. Wong’s confidence saying that the local practitioners are of a very high standard.
He said that his charges performed exceptionally well when they participated in the very tournament in 2011 in Grenada. Local karatekas also excelled at a similar tournament in Barbados some six years ago.
Some of the practitioners scheduled to participate are females, Hannah Farinha, Aliya Wong, Kerry Ramkumar and Tashan Wong. The males will be led by Tyler Orderson, Yannick Rameshwar, Eric Hing and Carlos Gonsalves.
