Preparations underway for GSCL T12 tourney

Preparations for the Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL) male Twelve12 nationwide open tournament are well underway; twelve of Guyana’s leading teams have already registered. According to the organising secretary of the GSCL Samuel Kingston, all teams are required to submit their list of a maximum of 15 players with a photocopy of each player’s identification card before the start of the first match on June 15.

Kingston stated that all the matches will be played at Everest Cricket Club and the twelve participating teams will be divided into 2 zones and will face each other once after which the top two teams from each zone will qualify for the semi finals.
Defending champions Memorex, Regal XI, DVD Titans, Bartica Challengers, Cotton Field Wild Oaths, Smith XI, Wolf Warriors, Rising Star, Farm XI, Super Star, Dundee Kings and Hill Foot Warriors are the teams that will battle for a first prize of $600,000 and trophy; the runner up team will take home a trophy and $200,000.
The man-of-the-match in the final will collect $10,000 along with a trophy while the most outstanding batsman and bowler in the competition will receive $5,000 along with trophies.  Kingston told Kaieteur Sport that team sponsors will be at the venue during the opening ceremony at 09:00 hrs and all players are asked to be attired in their uniform. He informed that Digimax is already on board and there will also be giveaways for the fans.
The drawing of the competition will be done at the launching at the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) Sports Club on June 11. The competition will conclude on June 23 with the semi finals and final.
