Zone ‘A’ defeated Zone ‘B’ by 16 runs to win the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB)\Igloo Ice Cream Under-15 Inter Zone competition which was contested recently at Affiance in the Cinderella County.
Zone ‘A’ batted first and managed 119-7 off their mandatory 37 overs. Mark Williams top scored with 73, while Rendell Reddy supported with 16. Off-spinner Beesham Moses grabbed 5 for 14 and Sachin Persaud 2 for 22 for Zone ‘B’ which replied with 120 for 6 off their allotted overs to take a one run lead.
Sachin Persaud scored 32 and Ravindra Sookram 16; Azeemul Khan claimed 2 for 26. Zone ‘A’ posted 102 in their 2nd innings, Mark Williams leading with 18, Azeemul Khan 14 and Vishal Singh 12.
Bowling for Zone ‘B’ Sachin Persaud captured 3 for 10 while Beesham Moses also had 3 for 10 to end with match figures of 8-24.
Set 101 for victory, Zone ‘B’ were sent packing for 84; Orlando Jailall 22 and Shamar Britton 17 were the only batsmen to reach double figures as Rendell Reddy picked up 3 for 8 and Joshua Jones 2 for 28.
Meanwhile, the ECB selectors have named their team for the Inter County tournament which is scheduled to commence shortly.
The squad reads; Christopher Latchman, Mark Williams, Sachin Persaud, Beesham Moses, Akash Ramnanan, Joshua Jones, Vishal Singh, Randy Ruplall, Mark Lewis, Shamar Britton, Azeemul Khan, Rendell Reddy, Ravindra Sookram and Orlando Jailall. Andy Ramnarine is the Coach and Viren Chintamani, Manager.
