Grandmother calls for justice
The grandmother of a 10-year-old child who was sexually violated by her stepfather last January believes that the police are dragging their feet on the matter and are pushing her around.
The Good Hope, East Coast Demerara woman yesterday said that she is disappointed in the way the police are handling matters in this country.
She explained that her granddaughter was living with her mother and her stepfather, and that some time in January last, the 10-year-old told her that she wanted to move out from the home.
“I questioned her and then she tell me that her stepfather put his penis in her mouth and he push his fingers in her vagina and when she tell her mother, her mother mocking her,” the disturbed grandmother stated.
The woman explained that she took her granddaughter to make a report to the Vigilance Police Station. “The man was arrested and put on $100,000 station bail.”
The worried grandmother stated that she would frequently visit the police station to find out what is going on with the matter but the police are only telling her that the matter is with that Director of Public Prosecution.
An official from the DPP’s office said, on Tuesday, that the office has received no such file. However, the police are adamant that a report was sent to the DPP’s office.
The grandmother is now confused as to what really is going on with the matter. She is questioning whether her granddaughter will ever get justice. At the same time the man who is responsible for the act is roaming the streets, she added.
