A 28-year-old goldminer is now battling for his life at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), after a PVC pipe reportedly burst and pierced through his navel.
The incident occurred early yesterday at Marudi, Region Nine.
According to reports, Waldain McKenzie was fixing a water system when a pipe burst and pierced is navel.
His fiancé, Davika Naipaul, said hat she was in the camp cooking when the 28-year-old man ran towards her, holding his belly and shouting for her.
“He run towards me and ask me to call the Brazilians who were not far from our camp so that they could take him out to the landing so that he could get a boat to take him to Bartica Hospital,” Naipaul said.
She added that McKenzie was treated at the Bartica Hospital and was immediately transferred to the GPHC for treatment.
Up to press time yesterday the 28-year-old was in a serious condition.
