A female Lance Corporal of Police is presently in hot water following the disappearance of a quantity of cash from the force’s ‘A’ Division Registry. The money represents the proceeds from the sale of firearm licences.
Police in a statement yesterday said that “The Audit and Inspection Unit of the Police Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) in conjunction with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is conducting investigations into financial irregularity that has been uncovered in the Police ‘A’ Division Registry Section. The fraud involves the sale of Firearm Licences and a female Lance Corporal has been placed under open arrest as the investigations continue.”
Kaieteur News understands that the female rank was previously transferred from the Police Finance Office where she and others were implicated in another massive fraud, for which no one has been prosecuted.
In fact, the rank was recently promoted at the last police promotions announced on January 1.
