The curtains came down today on the National Song Festival, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport at the National Cultural Center, which saw the participation of choirs from Regions 4, 5, 6, and 10.
The main objective of this initiative, which was launched in November 2011, is the resuscitation of choral singing. It catered for all the different music formats including choral singing, drumming and verses.
Each group/choir performed a song of their choice along with a compulsory national song and was judged by a panel of esteemed individuals, known for their sterling contribution to local music.
Groups were judged on a number of aspects including, phrasing, presentation of music (performance) musicality and presentation in terms of the appearance of the groups.
In the large category, the winners were: the Brickdam Cathedral winning third place and $100,000, Saxa Heralders-second place with $200,000, and New Amsterdam Secondary School- first place winning $300,000.
Meanwhile, in the small category, first place went to The Messengers- copping $200,000, second place- J-Four Inspiration- $125,000, and third place- Circle of Love- winning $75,000. (GINA)
