A 13 year-old student of the Linden Foundation Secondary School was pronounced dead on arrival at the Linden Hospital Complex yesterday afternoon, minutes after being struck by a speeding car yesterday. The incident occurred at around 16:00 hours.
The teen has been identified as Seon Messiah Clement of 769 South Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
Reports are that the teen was riding a bicycle on the Highway in the vicinity of Lover’s Lane when he was struck down by a Toyota Raum motorcar PMM 1502.
This publication was told that the car and another vehicle were reportedly racing when it stuck the child off of his bicycle head on. The teen and his cycle were tossed some distance away from the point of impact. The injured teen was picked up by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The teen’s father, Ian Clement, who is a Sergeant of Police, stationed at the Brickdam Police Station, told this publication that he was at his wife’s workplace waiting for their son. Clement said that while with his wife at the Linden Foundation Secondary School, where she works, he was calling his son via telephone. However, the child seemed to be taking forever and at one point was not responding to the phone calls.
However a short while after, Clement said, a man came to him and told him that he had just witnessed an accident on the Highway.
“When he say the boy that get knock down was riding a red bicycle, right away I knew it was my son. I hear he head go through the windscreen, he foot break, he really get mash up,” Clement said through tears.
The man said by the time he got to the hospital his son was already dead.
“This was my best Christmas ever, and now look at this. He was my eldest son,” a tearful Clement said.
Meanwhile this publication was told that the driver of the car which was involved in the accident was being driven by the son of a police officer. Up to press time yesterday it was not clear if he was detained.
