A new agreement that will change the way airlines operate in the international markets is to be signed between Guyana and the US government.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the agreement will help to fuel competition and even reduce prices of flying cargo and passengers.
The Air Transport Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Guyana and the Government of the United States of America was to be signed by Transport Minister, Robeson Benn and Brent Hardt, Ambassador of the United States of America. However, the ceremony has been postponed.
According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the agreement will make it possible for “airlines to offer the traveling and shipping public a variety of service options which will encourage individual airlines to develop and implement innovative and competitive prices.”
The agreement will also “liberalize the rules for international aviation markets and minimize government intervention as it applies to passenger, all-cargo and combination air transportation as well as scheduled and charter services.”
The new agreement will replace the one between the governments of the United Kingdom and the United States of America relating to air services between their respective territories, signed in Bermuda, February 11, 1946.
