The First Lady Foundation under the auspices of First Lady Deolatchmee Ramotar as well as the President of Guyana, Donald Ramotar, yesterday spread the Christmas cheer with over 400 children from the three counties of Guyana, at the Albion Sports Complex, Albion, Corentyne, Berbice.
And the Guyanese Leader sang; yes, he sang the popular old Christmas Carol, ‘O Holy Night’.
The Guyanese leader took the microphone, held on to it and sang. And he sounded great too. He was loudly cheered upon completion of the song.
Children ranging from three to 10 years, along with their parents turned up yesterday and filled the Sports Complex to capacity as they participated in games such as musical chairs and singing competitions, among others, in keeping with the joys of this season of Christmas.
It was during all the frolicking that the Guyanese leader made his grand entrance.
He was warmly greeted by the members of the Foundation, the kids as well as the First Lady. Then the real Santa Claus arrived, bringing great joy to the screaming kids.
According to the First Lady, the Foundation’s values and goals are focused on promoting the family and its core values.
It comprises eight members and is registered under the Friendly Societies Act of Guyana.
She revealed that two other similar parties for the children will be held; one in Essequibo on December 15 and the final one on December 19, 2012 at State House in Georgetown.
Apart from spreading cheer to the children, Mrs. Ramotar stated that the foundation is involved in a kitchen garden project, which is opened to schools, focusing on organics. “We want to bring back agriculture. This is an agricultural country and in the schools you have the Agricultural Science, but it’s only the theory, so I believe if you do the practicals, you tend to remember, but the theory alone, you tend to forget.”
