As police continue their investigation into Sunday night’s shooting incident involving 39-year-old taxi driver Dale Cameron, they are yet to come up with a motive.
A source close to the investigation said that they have taken a statement from the injured man, but his story is “not making much sense”. The source said that the incident can be deemed one of the strangest cases they have ever come across.
The injured man has maintained his story about being shot by a female ‘passenger’ whom he picked up at Blankenburg, West Coast Demerara.
Cameron was shot in the head and left leg at around 21:00 hrs on Sunday.
The incident allegedly occurred at Crane, West Coast Demerara. Cameron, 39, of 130 Belle West, West Bank Demerara, reportedly told investigators that he picked up a woman who was dressed in black, at Blankenburg.
He said the woman requested to be dropped off in Crane. However, while approaching the turn at Crane, Cameron said the woman pulled out a gun and shot him twice.
The man also told investigators that after being shot he drove the car into a nearby canal and the woman quickly exited and ran away. Nothing was taken away from the injured man, who made his way to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station in a taxi where he made a report.
Cameron then went to the West Demerara Regional Hospital and was subsequently referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
