Overturned tractor pins unlicenced driver
A 25-year-old labourer from Zeskendren, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara perished Friday afternoon when he was pinned under a tractor that had turned turtle into a trench.
Delon Morrison, called ‘Gully’ was the driver. He was pronounced dead at the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where he was rushed an hour after his lifeless body was pulled from under the tractor by his younger brother and another co-worker.
The incident occurred around 17:00 hours in a rice field at Carlton Hall, Mahaicony, where Morrison was employed.
Police in a press release stated that Morrison who is not licenced to drive a tractor, was driving the 290 Massey Ferguson vehicle, when he lost control causing it to turn over in the trench.
Kaieteur News understands that Morrison, his brother and another labourer had just finished assembling a water pump in the rice field and were leaving the area when the mishap occurred.
There are reports that the two other co-workers tried valiantly to free Morison from under the tractor but by the time they succeeded it was too late.
Police said that their investigations are in progress and they will await the post mortem examination of the body before any conclusion could be arrived at.
