– business owner drops dead
An early morning fire has left billions of dollars in damages and losses as fire gutted five buildings which housed several businesses on Regent Street in the heart of the city’s commercial district.
One businessman, Ramdat Sherpersaud, 64, who lost his store collapsed upon seeing the fire and was pronounced dead minutes later at a city Hospital.
Fire men were able to rescue four Chinese Nationals who were trapped in one of the burning buildings. They were pulled out of the building with significant burns about their body.
The inferno began at about 05:15 hours this morning.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
