– Tourney kicks off tomorrow
Support by four major sponsors has assured the top four finishers in this year’s Mayor’s Cup annual Knock-Out Inter Ward Football tournament, which kicks off tomorrow with a double header at the GFC ground, of their prizes.
Banks DIH is the sponsor of the $500,000 first prize with Digicel covering the $250,000 second prize, Beepat and Sons has donated the $150,000 third prize and Busta will take care of the $100,000 fourth prize.
Other key additional sponsors supporting the tournament include MACORP, John Fernandes, Nazar Mohamed of Mohamed’s Enterprise of Lombard Street, CIDI, General Equipment Guyana Ltd, New Thriving Restaurant, Sterling Products and Courtney Benn Construction.
Coordinator Lennox Arthur informed that all football players are eligible to participate in this tournament once they are representing the area or Ward they live in. The tournament will feature both big name players and a number of fringe players and it promises to be exciting.
Among some of the players expected to turn out are Quincy Madramootoo for Kingston, Devon Millington for North East Ruimveldt, Anthony Abrams for Wortmanville and Howard Lowe representing Campbellville.
Action tomorrow at the GFC Ground will see Tiger Bay play Uitvlugt from 6:30pm and West Ruimveldt battle Stewartville from 8:30pm in the opening fixtures.
Play continues Saturday with a triple header from 4:30pm with Werk-en-Rust opposing Bourda, Lodge play Kuru Kururu and Kitty tackle Wales.
On Sunday, another triple header starting at 4:30pm will see Alberttown versus South Sophia, Charlestown against Mocha and West Ruimveldt Estate tangle with Grove.
Other playing dates are March 28, 29, 30, April 1, 4, 6, 10 and 13 when the final and third place playoff will be staged.
